Why I Don’t Go Fishing

This assorted tackle was collected from birds brought to the Key West Wildlife Center with fishline and fishook injuries.

Lost netting, monofilament line, hooks and lures do unspeakable damage to wildlife.  Florida Keys’ wildlife rescue facilites are witness to an unsettling number of wildlife injuries due to fishhooks and fishline. Some are quite gruesome: loss of a flipper on a sea turtle, a punctured eye on a white heron, the torn-open pouch of a pelican.
